"How serious about this are you?" Bernard asks.
Tim knows exactly what he means, but he tries anyway. "Walking across campus?" he asks. "Deathly." He puts a 'deathly serious' expression on his face.
Bernard swats at him, but his hand doesn't connect. It never does. "You what I mean," he says. "This." He gestures at the space between them.
"As serious as…I can be," Tim says, wincing at the ending. "I know that sounds like a cop-out, but." He falls silent.
"What I meant, Tim, is do you want to tell our friends we're together?"
"Oh." Tim smirks a little. "All of my friends already know."
"You told them?"
"No."
